Web Insight: do children spent the right amount of time playing video games?

Video games, with their built-in reward systems, are potentially addictive. Whether addicted or not, many children spend a considerable amount of time playing video games.

In our Digital Future Survey, since 2012 we have asked adults with children under age 18 in their households if they thought the youngsters spent too much, too little, or just about the right amount of time playing video games.

Every year the majority of adults said that the children spent just about the right amount of time playing video games.

However, the percentage of adults who said that the amount was too much has been increasing. In 2013, 28% and in 2012, 35% of adults responded that too much time was spent by the children playing video games. In 2016 and again in 2018 the percentage had increased to 41%.
