What percentage of Americans have a smartphone?

In the Center’s 2018 Digital Future Survey, 86% of respondents, aged 12 and above, reported possessing a smartphone.

This number has been steadily increasing. In 2012, when we first asked this question, only 54% had a smartphone.

The biggest jump was from 2013 to 2014, when the number with smartphones increased from 56% to 72%.

In an upcoming Web Insight, we will examine the demographic characteristics of those who do not own smartphones.
