As use of the Internet has become more widespread, how important has going online become for helping users maintain social relationships?

Respondents who said the Internet is “not important at all” and “not important” decreased from 30 percent in 2007 to 25 percent in 2012. Similarly, respondents who reported that the Internet is “important” and “very important” increased from 45 percent in 2007 to 56 percent in 2012. In general, from 2007 to 2012, the Internet’s importance in helping users maintain their social relationships has increased.
