Uday Karmarkar

Senior Research Fellow

Uday S. Karmarkar is Times Mirror Professor of Management Strategy and Director of the Center for Management in the Information Economy (
www.cmie.info) at the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. His research interests are in information intensive industrie, technology management and operations strategy for manufacturing, service and information based companies. He previously taught at the GSB, University of Chicago and at the Simon School, University of Rochester. He holds a B.Tech. degree in Engineering from I.I.T. and a Ph.D. in Management Science from M.I.T. Professor Karmarkar was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay) and is on their Advisory Board.

He has undertaken consulting and research projects in technology management, operations strategy, industrial (B2B) marketing, business development and supply chain management with firms such as Aditya Birla Group, Becton Dickinson, Cimflex Teknowledge, Deere and Company, Eastman Kodak Co., Ford Motor Co., GM, W.W.Grainger, Hindustan Lever Ltd., ICI-Zeneca, IBM Metals Application Group, IBM Corporate Logistics, LA-CRA, LA-MTA, LTV Steel, Thomson Professional Publishing (several companies), Tyton Corp., vizrt, Xoriant Corp. and Xerox Corp. He is on the advisory boards of several startup companies as well as more established firms.

Professor Karmarkar's work (over 65 papers and articles) has been published in journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Econometrica, Harvard Business Review, IIE Transactions, European Journal of O.R., Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, Production Planning and Control, Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Interfaces, Journal of Manufacturing Research, and Organizational Behavior and Human Performance. Professor Karmarkar has founded two academic journals and is on the editorial and advisory boards of several others.
